Claire Dicken

Claire Dicken is 17 years old and comes from Buckland. She first heard about the Raymarine Lively Lady Project at school, and was intrigued enough to want to find out more – and she’s been an integral part of the project ever since.

She hopes the project will give her the chance to learn something new and do things she wouldn’t have been able to do before. She’s also looking forward to learning about different cultures and finding out more about working with and meeting different people.

Of her role in the project so far she said,
“I feel that I have gained more confidence to do things that I didn’t feel I could do before.  I have met new people and made new friends. The best parts so far have been the sailing and meeting new people. I’ve also helped with most of the team fundraising projects like bag packing and other events. And, along with two others in the project, I helped to organise a non school uniform day at my school”.

Before the project, Claire had never sailed before, but now thinks it’s really fun and hopes to carry on after the project is over.

That’s not all she’s learnt though. She said,
“The project has taught me to be more confident, and shown me that if you don’t ask you don’t get. I’ve learnt how much time and commitment you have to put in, and how hard team work can be sometimes. But in the end your hard work is always worth it”.
