Craig Drury
Craig Drury is 19, comes from Stamshaw and is studying IT at Highbury College.
He heard about The Raymarine Lively Lady Project through the Meridian Trust Association, with whom he'd been working for some time. Before starting on the project, he'd already sailed across the channel with the MTA, so had some idea of what to expect and knew that he would enjoy the sailing. However, he's looking forward to learning much more on board Lively Lady and to improving his navigating as well.
One of the most important lessons he feels he's learnt through the training and preparation is how critical it is for a project like this to work as a team and to all play your part to make it successful. He says he's learned a new motto for life, "To keep on trying and never give up".
He's clearly been carrying that thought through into his fund-raising too as, on top of all the bag packing with the team, he's also taken part in a 15 mile sponsored walk!
He's loved all the training, especially the sailing and hopes one day to get his Ocean Yachtmaster. As for his leg, he's looking forward to seeing Guatemala and Acapulco and learning much, much more about seamanship along the way. << back
