Donna Anderson

Donna Anderson is 20 years old and is originally from Cardiff. However, she moved to live in Hilsea in Portsmouth almost 4 years ago.  She’s currently working in Sports World in Portsmouth, but before that she went to Highbury College in Cosham for 2 years where she gained a BTEC National Diploma in Public Services.  She came to the Raymarine Lively Lady Project through the Portsmouth Outdoor Education Unit – while doing her Duke of Edinburgh Award, they thought she might like to try sailing, so she started working with the Meridian Trust Association and, through them, joined the project. She said,
“when they asked me if I was interested in sailing at first I wasn’t quite sure if I was or not, but they put me in touch with the Meridian Trust Association and I did a Round the Island race with them in October 2005 and I really enjoyed it!

She’s eager to join the RAF after finishing with The Raymarine Lively Lady Project and is hoping to carry on sailing either in the Forces or after.  She feels that through the project she’s learned you can do anything if you put your mind to it.  And she’s doing pretty well on that front too….
“So far on the project I have achieved my RYA Competent Crew certificate but I am now working towards my Day Skippers too. Along with that I have loads of new skills and have made new friends.  Recently I have been a mate for the Meridian Trust Association where I helped as part of the Pompey Kids Afloat week.  All the sailing I have done I have enjoyed every minute of it!  And, I have learned by doing the fundraising that you need to have very good organisation skills which I am working towards!”
